Successful Meeting

We met this morning with the SDA, after a rather sleepless night (less because we were worried and more because of jet-lag -- even Tris had trouble sleeping!) Lesya, our amazing representative, did most of the work. She went in before us, and who knows what she did, or said, or promised, but she came out of the meeting with a wonderful referral for us -- a beautiful, healthy 3 year old boy, Dmitri (Dima for short). To pile blessings on top of blessings, he is in a great orphanadge just outside of Kiev, meaning that we can stay in the city for the duration of our trip! Needless to say, we are very happy...

Tomorrow we go to get permission to visit him, and then on Thurs we will meet him. At this point, we will officially accept the referral, and then they will set a court date. Once we get a successful court ruling (Lord willing) then he would officially, legally be ours! Until this time, it is little steps along the way, each step bringing us closer. We are very excited, but in a guarded way -- Ukraine government is unpredicatable, and (as we know) things can change so quickly. So while we are rejoicing in this good step, there is still a feeling of uncertainty, and we want to guard our hearts (as well as our families who are eagerly awaiting this addition) from disappointment.

We thank you all so much for your prayers on our behalf, and for this child, still unknown to us all but yet so deeply loved! We would ask prayers for the following:
-- a good meeting with Dima that will confirm that he is the child for our family; a chance to really get to know him and that he and Tristan would bond.
--that our paperwork would continue to be well received by the decision makers.
--for a speedy court date and a positive ruling.
-- for the ability to trust in God's faithfulness for all the unknowns.

Stay posted, as we will try to add pictures today (of Kiev) and hopefully some of our little guy on Thursday!

  2. THIS IS AWESOME!

BTW, Dmitri is just about the most Pesci name ever. It even makes "Ted" sound like a wuss. Dmitri is a linebacker's name.

The thought of a little three-year-old about to leave an orphanage in a matter of weeks and go home with his new parents makes me so insanely happy I almost want to cry. But then the name Dmitri makes me want to man up and get it under control.

    Congratulations, you guys!

  3. To piggyback on an earlier post, Dmitri sounds like he would fit right in with Mark Dantonio's system. I'm sure he will look good in an MSU jersey and then a Bears jersey. Possibly un-retire number 50? Anyways, everything sounds awesome and we're hesitantly excited for you. We miss you guys and will continue to pray for all of you.

  4. This is from Jami, you know, short, fussy germ-o-phobe from church. I'll post a photo next time to help. Just kidding. But really, this is my first blog experience so I'm not up to speed on etiquette.
CE is going well, although Cole comments every week how it isn't nearly as fun without Tris. We certainly miss your presence(Ted) and expertise(Kristin). The weather here is starting to feel spring-like, especially since the time change. How many hours later are you in Kiev and what's the weather like? Do you have a real live address? I know it seems old fashioned, but we would love to send you a real letter. The kids have been coloring pictures for Tris and Dima.
