One Week to Blastoff!

We leave for Ukraine -- and an unknown child -- in one week.

A quick explanation of the name of our blog: The name is a reference to a song by The Doors, and is also the title of a forthcoming book, by Ted, to be published by Moody Press which will chronicle the stories of our two adoptions. When we were trying to think of a title for the book, that song popped into my head, and seemed to perfectly describe the crazy emotional vibe that IS international adoption. So this blog will be a sneak peek of that book, although the blog is written by me and the book will be written by Ted. And if missing us becomes unbearable, what better way to experience us while we're gone than to visit www.tedkluck.com to buy a few of Ted's books to read? No pressure, of course:)

My thoughts and feelings are a weird mix: excitement about the trip, juggling a million details in my mind, lots of "lasts" (last weekend, last swim lesson, last church service, last lunch with girlfriends, etc), nervous curiosity and excitement about this new person who we'll be meeting soon, thankfulness for all God has done to bring this together and all His people have done for us in support of our trip, a jumble of Russian vocab words I'm trying to remember, preparing to miss friends and family, worry about sickness or bad weather derailing the trip, the familiar travel fever, and amazement over all that has happened in the last few weeks and all that will happen in the next few... it's hard to wrap my mind around all of this!

We'll do our best to keep in touch, in spite of what figures to be spotty Internet/phone access in Ukraine. We'll try to update after we arrive in Kiev and find out the location of our child! Please keep us in your prayers, and we'll be thinking about you all as we travel.

Kristin
